1. You will learn self defense
Unfortunately, we live in a world where danger from an unexpected person with ill intent exists. Whether you are an adult taking out cash from the ATM, a college student walking across campus at night, or a child at the mall, there are some troubled people who will see you as a target. By training with us, you are being proactive. Martial Arts is a way to prepare yourself to react in a calmer, more efficient way, instead of allowing fear and adrenaline to take over completely.
2. You will be more active
With work and other priorities coming before positive physical activities, the result is taking a toll on our bodies. Lack of physical activity is one of the largest contributing factors to obesity, chronic diseases, and tiredness. Participating in routine physical activity will increase your oxygen intake, circulation, and physical performance, allowing for many health benefits.
3. You will be more confident
Martial Arts helps you become more confident through hard work and seeing the results of your training. When you have set personal goals and achieved them, your accomplishments and abilities make you more confident.
4. You will experience being out of your comfort zone
At first, joining a martial arts class really takes you out of your comfort zone. This is a stage that everyone should experience. Getting out of your comfort zone requires courage and perseverance which are two qualities that will definitely help set you up for success in life. This is a difficult stage to get passed and many people give up at this stage, but once you have been training for awhile, the dojang (training Area) BECOMES a comfort zone.
5. You will be more focused and disciplined
Learning a martial art requires you to pay attention to details for an extended period of time without the option to skip or stop until the end of a class session. By doing this, you are increasing your attention span. After getting used to the discipline in class, it eventually causes you to be self disciplined in your actions outside of class as well. Similar to how a military basic trainee's family notices that the young person they know so well walks differently when they get to see them after graduating.
6. You will have the opportunity for competition and community
Our martial arts school is a member studio of a larger organization, the WTSDA. This allows you the opportunity to compete, and develop social bonds with people of all professions and ages, that are experiencing martial arts at the same time. You will be invited to regional and even world events that give you an opportunity to meet new people and visit other cities. There are different kinds of ways to compete in martial arts. There is the traditional forms competition where you perform a pattern of movements in front of judges who will score your performance based on speed, power, balance, and technique. There is also sparring competition where two competitors attempt to score points by getting passed each other's defenses. At some competitions, there is board breaking, and even creativity competitions that allow more creative minds to share their art with everyone.
7. You will have fun!
The people who have stuck with martial arts passed black belt would agree that one of the reasons they continued on is because they enjoyed it!
